We’re excited to share that Congressman Don Beyer will be joining us for the next Douglas Park Civic Association meeting on Tuesday, February 24 at 7:00 PM at Studio Pause (4710 Columbia Pike).

This was a packed house last year, and we expect strong turnout again. Neighbors are encouraged to bring a folding chair, and the meeting will also be live-streamed on our Facebook page for those who can’t attend in person.
Meeting agenda highlights include:
1. Vision Zero intersection update (Walter Reed & Pollard)
2. Dominion Energy Substation update
3. Park renovation update
4. Holiday Fund Drive recap
5. Civic Association officer voting
6. Remarks from Congressman Beyer
7. New business and community discussion

Important note:
We will be voting on Civic Association leadership, with two open officer positions and no incumbents running this year, Treasurer and Secretary. This is a great opportunity to step into a leadership role and help shape the future of Douglas Park. If you’re interested in serving as President, Vice President, Treasurer, or Secretary, please reach out to Steve at president@douglasparkca.org.

Neighbors,

Tuesday November 4th is Election Day – and the Douglas Park Civic Association is excited for our annual tradition of the Election Day Bake Sale at Randolph Elementary School from 6:00am – 7:00pm. A special thank you to our neighbor Molly for running the bake sale this year. Two ways to participate:

BAKING

Donating baked goods such as cakes (whole or quarters), pies, sweet breads, cookies/brownies (with and without nuts), fruit bars/fudge/scones/biscotti, anything else you’d like!

Wrapping items in clear plastic or bagging them individually (for larger items like brownies) or a few in a bag (cookies), is helpful but not required. Please attach a note or let me know when you drop off what the baked good is, and if it should be labeled as nut-free, gluten-free, egg-free, dairy-free, etc.

Drop-off Details:

When/Where:

  • Monday, November 3rd, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at 1506 South Stafford Street (new location!).
    • If you need to drop off earlier in the day or over the weekend, feel free to reply to me (Molly) to arrange.
  • Election Day: You can also drop off items directly at the sale table on November 4th.

VOLUNTEERING

We need volunteers for two-hour shifts at the bake sale table on Tuesday, November 4th, from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM (or until we run out of food).

BUYING BAKED GOODS

If you can’t bake or volunteer, please consider purchasing items to enjoy at home or share at the office. Like last year, we will accept cash, check, Venmo, and PayPal. We also plan to sell coffee, tea, and hot chocolate if we have enough volunteers.

SIGN UP:  Please fill out information HERE on what you plan to bake and if you’re willing to volunteer.

Thank you for your continued support! Our neighborhood has amazing bakers and enthusiastic supporters, and we look forward to another successful event. You do not need to vote at Randolph to enjoy buying baked goods.

Cheers,

Steve Jordan Tomaszewski
President, Douglas Park Civic Association

Join us for our next Douglas Park Civic Association quarterly meeting featuring an Arlington County Board Candidate Forum on May 20th 7:00-8:00pm at Fire Station #9 (1900 S Walter Reed Dr, Arlington, VA 22204, come in the back entrance and go to the basement community room).
We will have a debate between all declared candidates for this year’s open County Board seat: Audrey Clement For A Greener Arlington, James Devita For County Board, Jermay Olmack, and Takis For Arlington.
This will be an opportunity for neighbors to meet and hear from the candidates, and to be able to directly ask questions that affect Douglas Park.
Last year’s County Board candidate forum was a well-attended event, and this year we are looking forward to having a discussion on the future of Arlington. We will also stream the event on our Facebook page, but residents are highly encouraged to attend in-person.

We’re happy to announce the second annual Douglas Park Spring Egg Hunt! The Douglas Park Civic Association is looking forward to your family joining us for this new neighborhood event. We will have eggs to find, a bouncy house, an Easter Bunny kids can take pictures with, and a glitter face paint station. The event will take place the Saturday before Easter, April 19th, from 10:00am – 12:00pm, with the Egg Hunt starting promptly at 10:30am. Participants can enter Douglas Park near the corner of South Quincy Street and 16th Street South (1602 S Quincy St, Arlington, VA 22204).

There will be three separated egg hunts by age group. The first group will be for 1-2 year olds, who can turn in empty eggs for a little toy. The second age group will be 2+ year olds, who will hunt for eggs filled with candy.

We are asking families to bring a food donation for the Arlington Food Assistance Center, or families can make a monetary donation to AFAC at the event. Please bring your own bag to hold eggs during the egg hunt. Please remember to return the empty eggs as they exit the event so we can re-use them next year. We are also in need of volunteers, so please sign up to set up, help out with the Easter Bunny and egg hunts, and clean up. In the event of spring showers, we will reschedule the event for the following Saturday April 26th.

We would like to especially thank our neighbors Tim and Louise Blasius who are making this event happen, and generous support from Kristin Francis Team!
