We’re happy to announce the first ever Douglas Park Spring Egg Hunt! The Douglas Park Civic Association is looking forward to your family joining us for this new neighborhood event. We will have eggs to find, an Easter Bunny kids can take pictures with, and a glitter face paint station. The event will take place the Saturday before Easter, March 30th, from 10:00am – 12:00pm, with the Egg Hunt starting promptly at 10:30am. Participants can enter Douglas Park near the corner of South Quincy Street and 16th Street South (1602 S Quincy St, Arlington, VA 22204).

RSVPs are required so we can plan to accommodate all of the kids. There will be three separated egg hunts by age group. The first group will be for 1-2 year olds, who can turn in empty eggs for a little toy. The second age group will be 2-7 year olds, who will hunt for eggs filled with candy. The third age group will be 7+ year olds, who will also hunt for eggs filled with candy.

We are asking families to bring a food donation for the Arlington Food Assistance Center, or families can make a monetary donation to AFAC at the event. Please bring your own bag to hold eggs during the egg hunt. Please remember to return the empty eggs as they exit the event so we can re-use them next year. We are also in need of volunteers, so please sign up to set up, help out with the Easter Bunny and egg hunts, and clean up. In the event of spring showers, we will reschedule the event for the following Saturday April 7th.

We would like to especially thank our neighbor Tim and Louise Blasius who are making this event happen!

As many of you are aware, Yahoo! is making some pretty significant changes to Yahoo! Groups this fall. Yahoo! Groups is the service provider for our listserv. Because of these and other changes, we have decided to move the listserv to groups.io; a dedicated listerv hosting company started by Mark Fletcher who was one of the pioneers of listerv platforms. Our listserv is in the queue for transition (as are a LOT of other groups; Yahoo’s actions have precipitated a mass exodus). If all goes to plan, all current listserv members should be transferred to the new platform once the transition is complete. We will be communicating to the listserv as we work through the transition and eventually retiring the current listserv. If you’ve not signed up for the listserv before, now is the time to get a jump on the new platform; just send an email to dpca-listserv+subscribe@groups.io.

  • Addition of Arlington Fire Department / EMS medic unit on-site
  • Electronic messaging board placed out along parade route by Arlington police

The parade celebrates Bolivian culture and the Carnival of Oruro,a festival dating back more than 2000 years that takes place in Oruro, Bolivia. It is one of UNESCO’s Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Originally an indigenous festival, the modern celebration incorporates a Christian ritual around the Virgin of Socavón.
