    VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Fourth of July Parade/Potluck Executive Coordinator

Coordinates Douglas Park’s longest continuously-running tradition – the annual Fourth of July Parade and Potluck. This event starts with a bicycle and float decorating contest, the designation of the “Mayor of Douglas Park,” family fun activities, local government booths, live music, a hot dog burn, and a potluck. Lead our neighborhood in our 42nd annual event for 2024!

    Tree Advocate

You speak for the trees. This position will work with parts of Arlington County, Nova Parks, Dominion Energy, local non-profits, arborists, and advocacy organizations to improve our neighborhood’s tree canopy. The position will work to plant more trees, take care of current trees, identify priority projects, and find solutions to make a lasting impression on the community.

    Email ListServ Moderator

This position will moderate the 750+ members of our neighborhood’s Groups.io ListServ. The ListServ is a vital tool in our neighborhood to share information, help neighbors in need, solve problems, and stay in touch. The moderator will approve new ListServ requests, ensure posts comply with ListServ guidelines, and offer suggestions for improving communication with the Douglas Park Civic Association.

    Communications Executive Coordinator

Spearheads communications efforts from the civic association to engage with local residents. Coordinates efforts across digital and print platforms to maximize outreach to 10,000+ neighbors. Leads synchronization of messaging across platforms and recommends additional engagement methods to civic association leadership.

    Multi-Family Outreach Coordinator

Help inspire opportunities for connecting with our neighbors in multi-family buildings in Douglas Park. Work with property managers to get the word out about DPCA events, discover new ways to reach out to residents with different language options, and work to find ways to advocate for needs in multi-family complexes.

    Marketing Coordinator

Leads civic association efforts to interact with local businesses. Increases brand awareness and delivers value for businesses by finding opportunities to advertise and promote through DPCA channels including the newsletter, online social media platforms, and direct digital marketing.

    Neighborhood Historian

Bring history to life by documenting and preserving Douglas Park. Work with Arlington County to make a new historical marker in the neighborhood, document our shared history on our website, and work with other historically-minded neighbors to share the stories of our past.

    Trail of Terror Event Planner

Help to make one of Douglas Park’s annual events a great success. The event planner will work with the Trail of Terror planning committee to turn Douglas Park into a trail to scare local residents around Halloween. This event is going into its 13th event in 2023.

    Event Specialist

Coordinates an event, or multiple events, on behalf of the Douglas Park Civic Association. Works with applicable Arlington County representatives and processes, plans communications and resident outreach, and finds opportunities to bring our community together.

    County Liaison

Help improve our neighborhood by working with different elements of Arlington County. Be the focal point between civic association leadership and departments within the County. Find creative opportunities for advocacy, funding, project management, and resident engagement.

    Civic Federation Delegate or Alternate

Be one of the representatives from Douglas Park to participate in Arlington Civic Federation [CivFed] events and initiatives. CivFed helps Arlington with ‘our purpose continues to be promoting the general welfare of Arlington County and vicinity in a non-partisan, non-sectarian, non-sectional, and non-political manner’.
